New research on jet lag

A story in the weekend paper (SMH, Spectrum, 13-14 October) about jet lag got my attention – as it would anyone who has ever experienced jet lag. In fact I have had a mild case in the last week thanks to the beginning of daylight saving. And when I read this story it made sense. A professor at Adelaide’s Flinders University, Professor Leon Lack is researching the effect of light therapy on those who suffer from insomnia, including jet lag. Keeping the lights low in the evening, if you arrive in the early morning exposing yourself to sunlight will help you to stay awake and even purchasing a pair of Professor Lack’s glasses designed to ease the effect of jet lage by emiting light into the eye and mimicking sunlight, are all ways the current research suggests helps overcome jet lag.
